Steyr Hybrid Propulsion

Here is the schema of the recently released Steyr Hybid Propulsion system, the data below is taken from their brochure. It is strangly similar to the Hyperion system we will be presenting shortly.
“This is our integrated flywheel generator (IFG) was developed in collaboration with the Universities of Ljubljana and Vienna and ISKRA Avtoelektrika d.d. Our own product, the STEYR HYBRID SOLUTION has been developed in team work with several regional companies that have merged into “Netzwerk ADC plus”.
“The HYBRID PROPULSION is now ready for production and can be installed on all engines and drive combinations. The electric motor operates in 4 modes:
• In Starter Mode, the combustion engine can be started with the electric motor. The conventional starter motor can be eliminated or provide some redundancy.
- In Generator Mode, the extended battery unit is optimised and charged.
• In Electric Cruise Mode, the boat is driven purely by the electric motor. The battery unit is • constantly supervised on its state of charge and battery condition. This is brought to the attention of the driver through the STEYR CON TROL CENTER (SCC) .
• In the lower speed range, depending on dynamic requirements of the driver and the battery condition, the Boost Mode is used and the combustion engine then is supported by the massive torque of the electric motor. The E-motor supports the coupling and decoupling of the combustion engine. An improved response of the drive unit occurs through the boost mode. The STEYR ELECTRONI C CONTROL (SEC) control unit forwards the driver demands via CAN protocol to the engine control unit (ECU) and hybrid control unit (HCU). Both control units regulate the torque composition of machines depending on dynamic requirement. At the same time, the condition of the components (batteries, E-motor, combustion engine, environmental conditions) is supervised through the control units. The control units have adjustable functions and engine characteristics in order to coordinate all drive train variants to the driver’s demands in the appropriate boat.STEYR MOTORS GMBH arisen from the traditional vehicle manufacturer STEYR DAIMLER PU CH AG.
